Part-Time Construction Estimator Job Opportunity

Hello, my name is Luis Martinez. I am a first-year civil engineering student at Georgia Tech. MTZ Construction was founded by my dad in 2014 as a landscaping company. Slowly, we got into construction and have now handled many civil construction projects in Georgia and surrounding states. Through the years, we have been lucky to meet many general contracting companies that have subcontracted work to us. It caused us to make the mistake of only relying on them instead of having an office to be ready for a plan B. We have reached the point where we need help with the take-off bid process. We are looking to find new clients and push into bidding for city and county projects. We are GDOT pre-qualified, so we have the ability to work for larger prime contractors in the roadway. We have the team, experience, and ability to push for larger projects.

Take a Closer Look

Who am I looking for?

I am looking for someone with take-off and bid preparation experience. I’m also looking for a student with an entrepreneurial spirit who can help bring in new ideas. If you know how to find new clients or have any organizational ideas, I am all ears as well. I have learned a bit of estimating through experience, but I still haven’t taken many engineering classes, so my experience is lacking. In the past, I have used Stack Estimating, as it is easy for me to create a simple bid. I have canceled our subscription and want to move into Revu’s Bluebeam. If you have a takeoff software preference, I am open to suggestions before purchasing a subscription. I manage the office entirely, so we will be working together for the most part.

Skill Requirements:

-Excellent attention to detail and precision in calculations and documentation.

-Deep understanding of construction materials, methods, and costs.

-Knowledge in cost estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Timberline) and Microsoft Excel.

-Creativity to develop innovative ideas.

-Strong organizational and time management skills.

-Critical thinking skills to analyze data and identify potential issues.

Typical work week:

This is my first time hiring students or really anyone in the office, so this is what I envision a typical work week to look like. Nothing is set, and we can adjust it to fit your schedule.

  • There are no set working hours.

  • We will meet at the beginning of the week to discuss your schedule and availability.

  • The goal is to get at least 5 working hours, but if you are available, I can get up you to 10 hours.

  • Submitting simple task completion logs with your hours will be sufficient.

  • Our office is located at 135 Mirramont Lake Dr, Woodstock, GA. Being a student, I understand commuting with a job is hard and expensive.

  • If you have the technological abilities to work remotely or on campus, then that is my preference. However, we can also set you up with a computer in our office.

  • For the minimum, my goal is to send you blueprints so that, in your own time, you get me back the take-off quantities I assigned you to find.

  • If you know about competitive pricing, then we can get to the point where you can complete the full bid proposal.

  • If you know how to search for new clients or bid opportunities, we can assign those tasks to you as well.

  • This can be an in-semester job or a summer job.

Payment

  • Payments through Payroll direct deposit or W-9 by check, depending on your preference.

  • Salaries are $25-$35 per hour, depending on experience.
